Lake of the Ozarks Bagnell Dam
Bagnell Dam is built on the Osage River, located in the state of Missouri, United States. The reservoir of this dam is popularly known as the Lake of the Ozarks. This dam is a concrete gravity dam and its height is around 45 meters. It was built by the Electric Company, which is now called Ameren UE. The primary purpose of this dam is to generate power. This dam has length of 775 meters and it includes 156 meter long power station and 160 meter long spillway. This facility is equipped with eight power generators and is capable of producing 215 megawatts of electricity.
The name of the dam, Bagnell is derived from the site Bagnell on which it is created. This place has got its name from William Bagnell. He platted the town in 19th century. Bagnell dam is located on the border of the Miller County and Camden County. It is also known as Osage Dam, in records of some government organizations. The construction of Lake of the Ozarks Bagnell Dam was started in 1929 and it was completed in three years.

Its reservoir, Lake of the Ozarks, has a surface area of around 55000 acres and it stretches 92 miles. It has got around 1150 miles of shoreline. Though earlier attempts were made to build a dam on Osage River in 1912 by a famous Kansas City developer Ralph Street, but it failed due to lack of funds available. It was then the Union Electric Power and Light pooled in various experts from Massachusetts and Boston to construct a dam in the mighty Osage River. There were many concerns regarding the success of the dam, majority of people thought that spending $30 million on this project is a sheer waste of money.
